Hi,
I have some questions about VMware Infrastructure.
I am using two ESXi hosts with ESXi 5.0.Dont have Vcenter Server.
1 .Can I update H/W version of VMs without Update Manager or without Vcenter Server. Is there any patch available to update the VMs Version?
Should I update ESXi Host first from 5.0 to 5.1 and then update hardware version of VMs.
2 . I am also getting a PSOD in one server (Dell PowerEdge R410) file has been attached.it has happened 7 times prior, in the last 3 months.
Please guide me for the above issues.
Thanks
Regards
Pradeep
To add to above, make sure you have the latest version of the VM tools installed on your guest before upgrading the virtual hardware.
You can also patch your host without update manger - download the patches, copy them onto the host and run this from the DCUI;
esxcli software vib install -d path_to_bundle.zip
I would recommend patching the hosts first to make your you get the latest version of the tools, then upgrade the tools on the guest, and then upgrade the virtual hardware.
Cheers,
Jon
Hi,
To answer one question - yes you can update vm hardware without update manager, just right click the VM when it is powered off.
Have you got the latest updates/patches etc installed on the host that you are having the problems with? Is all the hardware on the hcl ?
Hi,
Can you guide me where to get the latest update /patches for host.

Regarding the PSOD, it looks like a page fault caused this - could be hardware (memory related) or software. Was the host under load at the time and can you reproduce this PSOD on demand - for example, when you run a specific process on DTSWEB01? Is there anything in the logs leading upto this crash?
