I am splitting light from the backbone network and want to analyze them.
So I need to enable promiscuous mode to see the netflow.
So I used to enable only PCI Passthrough for my Intel 82599EB 10-Gigabit SFI/SFP+ NIC on Windows Server 2022. Things worked fine then.
But I decided to try out SR-IOV recently.
I've done these:
- Enable SR-IOV Support in my BIOS (SuperMicro)
- Enable SR-IOV in my ESXi 6.7 U3
- Add PortGroup and vSwitch with Promiscuous Mode and Mac Spoofing Enabled.
- Add them to my VM with SR-IOV type network device
- Tried all sort of Intel's drive
Now what I finished:
- No drive problem, Windows recognize NIC fine
- SR-IOV and Passthrough fine
Problem:
- I can't see netflow from backbone network on fiber, only local LLDP and Windows' Workgroup something. (I use Wireshark, and also enable promiscuous mode there)
- Should I enable promiscuous mode again in somewhere between ESXi and Physical NIC?
