We migrated a set of hosts to ESX 4 an a new vCenter. Upgrade of hte hosts went fine. Running on IBM x 3850 with dual quad cores. We have a SQL server (Win 2003 Ent 32 bit, SQL 2005 Ent) that was running on ESX 3.5 with 4 vCPUs we are hoping that we could up the vCPU count on vm to 8. But in the vm settings we are limited to four. Doesnt make sense. If I create a server from scratch 8 vpu is an option, but not on a server that was migrated from our ESX 3.5 infrastructure.
You can create 8 vCPU VMs only if you have Enterprise Plus license. And 8 vCPUs can be assigned to VM with hardware ver. 7 only.
If you migrated VM from 3.5 thin this VM has hardware ver. 4 so you have to upgrade virtual hardware first.
