Problems with networking

Hi,

We have a vmware infrastructure still in version 4 over a HP Blade Center working for some years without problems.

However, 2 days ago we noticed the vms were very slow. We have narrowed down the problem to the network connectivity, though we do not find what the problem is.

On the vms, if we try to ping another server (either in or out of the blade enclosure) it looses a lot of pings. Pinging from the ESX hosts everything is fine with no ping loss.

This happens on all 4 esx servers.

On the other blade servers on the same enclosure (blades not with hypervisor installed) we do not see any problems, and they are working fine. The only blades affected are the esx servers.

No change was made to the environment that could have affected the virtualization servers, nor there was any sw, patch or firmware upgrades done in this infrastructure.

Do you have any suggestions on what this might be, and how to perform troubleshooting on this problem?

Thank and regards,

Hi all,

Thank you for your help. We have already identified the problem. It was an issue with the switches on the blade enclosure. Restarting them solved the problem.

Welcome to the Community - Look at the configuration of the virtual switch that VMs are using to identify which physical NICs are being used and confirm the physical network setup - including the switch ports being used to see if there are any issues with the physical layer.
