Problems with USB device in virtual machine

Hello everyone,

I'm new to VMWare and all this virtualization stuff! Please be verbose.

I have host running ESXi 5.1 and VM running Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1.

I use vSphere Client on my laptop to redirect locally connected USB device to VM.

USB device appears at VM in Device Manager and I have installed drivers for it.

But when I start using my device, software driving it will quit unexpectedly with error in log:

Faulting application name: MeasureTool.exe, version: 5.0.10.1056, time stamp: 0x4b1e1b52

Faulting module name: eyeone.dll, version: 3.4.2.133, time stamp: 0x48e4bc5b

Exception code: 0xc000000d

Fault offset: 0x0013bb61

Faulting process id: 0x61c

Faulting application start time: 0x01ce638e2299ddce

Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\X-Rite\ProfileMaker Professional 5.0.10\MeasureTool.exe

Faulting module path: C:\Program Files (x86)\X-Rite\ProfileMaker Professional 5.0.10\eyeone.dll

Report Id: 8583cfd8-cf81-11e2-a2f4-0050568fe732

My USB device is Xrite's i1 Spectrophotometer and software that I try to use is MeasureTool.

I have tried to connect it directly to host and then added it to VM as USB device but unfortunately I got the same result.

Needless to say that locally (on my laptop) my device and software works without any problems.

Any suggestions how to proceed?

regards,
