Problem with booting up a virtual server on ESXi 5 and vSphere

We have 4 servers on a host which is on a ESCi5 VMWare.

I had problems today to login with Remote Desktop to one of the servers today, so I Went into vSphere and rebooted the GuestOS. Normally when I do that I start a ping -t to see when it's on so I can login to it via Remote Desktop. This time the ping never respond! 😮

So I restarted the virtual host, I have restarted the server but the same problem all the time! And no error messages on the Event tab on vSphere!

The other servers are restarting fine.

I need help please!

Thanks

Some thoughts:

  • is the VM connected to the correct port group
  • is the virtual network adapter set to "Connect at Power On"
  • are all physical uplink ports (which are in use for the vSwitch) configured properly (VLAN settings, access/trunk mode, port security, ...)
  • does the guest OS show the network adapter as "connected"
  • did you double check the guest's IP settings
  • are you able to ping e.g. the default gateway, or another VM from within the guest OS

Ok - the case is closed.

I needed to get the Console running - which wasnt from the beginning to see what the GuestOS is complaining about.

I had a technician here that helped me get it on - and we saw that Windows had crashed.

Case closed.

Thanks!
