Powering ON VM with RDM disks gives errors "Cannot open the disk /vmfs/volumes/xxx_1.vmdk" or one of the snapshot disks it depends on 19(No such device)

Hi All,

Recently we had our ESXi server going down. This ESXi server has VM with RDM disks mapped. Aftre bringing the ESXi back online, when we powered ON, it failed with error message as:

Cannot open the disk '/vmfs/volumes/xx.vmdk' or on of the snapshot disks it depends on 19 (No such device).

When checked the disks they all are seen as 0K. Does detach and attach of the disks would help in fixing this issue? Is there any way for me to see the list of RDM disks that were attached to the VM?

This host has over 3 VMs and all VM has RDM disks attached.

Hi,

you could use the following command to figure out which disks are attached as pRDMS to a VM.

Listing Attributes of an RDM

Ralf

Hope this helps a bit.
