Port/protocol used specifically between esxi host and vcenter for host alarm vcenter based email action

Hi

We have several remote esxi hosts that have been setup with alarms and actions at the datacenter  level. and actions are via vCenter email.

what port/protocol needs to be enabled between remote esxi hosts and the vcenter for the alarms to be monitored ...does this use the CIM server between vCenter and esxi hosts!

Thanks for your patient replies if i amiss or wrong and appreciate pointers

CIM is responsible for hardware monitoring.

vpxa sends performance data to vpxd vCenter which stores it in database. here is good post about how performance data is collected from ESXi servers vCenter Performance Tab – Real-time vs. Historical Data | VirtualKenneth's Blog -...

Thanks to make this more specific ..would only 5989 TCP be required both ways for this to work ?  and not 5988 ?

5988TCPCIM ServerESXi 5.1.xCIM transactions over HTTP
5989TCPvCenter ServerESXi 5.1.xCIM XML transactions over HTTPS
5989TCPESXi 5.1.xvCenter ServerCIM XML transactions over HTPS

you will need 5989 TCP both way. 427 UDP must be opned between vSphere Client and ESXi host. I've attached vSphere 5x Network Port Diagram. I think it will be useful for you. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2870256/NetworkPortDiagram-vSphere5x-ReferenceTable-v2.pdf

also if you want to be compliant to security best practices please use appropriate to your vSphere VMware Security Hardening Guides | United States
