Hi
We have several remote esxi hosts that have been setup with alarms and actions at the datacenter level. and actions are via vCenter email.
what port/protocol needs to be enabled between remote esxi hosts and the vcenter for the alarms to be monitored ...does this use the CIM server between vCenter and esxi hosts!
Thanks for your patient replies if i amiss or wrong and appreciate pointers
here you can find VMware KB: Required ports for vCenter Server 5.1.x and VMware KB: Required ports for ESXi 5.1.x
..i am aware of this humongous ports and protocols doc ..i wanted the one specific port to that related to monitoring of esxi host from vcenter used indirectly for vCenter alarms and actions...
is this based on CIM server ?
CIM is responsible for hardware monitoring.
vpxa sends performance data to vpxd vCenter which stores it in database. here is good post about how performance data is collected from ESXi servers vCenter Performance Tab – Real-time vs. Historical Data | VirtualKenneth's Blog -...
Thanks to make this more specific ..would only 5989 TCP be required both ways for this to work ? and not 5988 ?
5988 | TCP | CIM Server | ESXi 5.1.x | CIM transactions over HTTP |
5989 | TCP | vCenter Server | ESXi 5.1.x | CIM XML transactions over HTTPS |
5989 | TCP | ESXi 5.1.x | vCenter Server | CIM XML transactions over HTPS |
and what about this port below ?..i just want to know the exact port and protocols required for inband health status monitoring of esx host via vcenter
Any inputs appreciated in the role of below also ?..Thanks
427 | UDP | vSphere Client | ESXi/ESX host | CIM Service Location Protocol (SLP) |
you will need 5989 TCP both way. 427 UDP must be opned between vSphere Client and ESXi host. I've attached vSphere 5x Network Port Diagram. I think it will be useful for you. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2870256/NetworkPortDiagram-vSphere5x-ReferenceTable-v2.pdf
