Pls help: slow performance for CentOS guest with 10Gb vNIC

Hi, we've VM guest on ESXi servers with 10Gb physical network.   The guest is running CentOS 6.7.  Ethtool shows the speed in use is 10000Mb/s.    It takes > 5000ms to ping default gateway.

VMXNET3 vNIC is used, with LRO disabled.   LRO is enabled on ESXi anyway.

We've another VM guest running CentOS on other ESXi server with similar setting (10Gb network, LRO enabled) but with E1000 vNIC with speed 1000Mb/s.  However, there is no problem with this VM at all.

I've no idea about how to further troubleshoot the issue.

Would anyone please help?

Thanks and rgds,

/ST Wong

Hi

Did you try to reinstall the VMTools.? Just to ensure that the Drivers are correct and up to date.

The problematic VM and the Other VM on another ESXi host are connected to the same Switch.? If they both ping to the same gateway and one is working absolutely fine, Then my bet is on to either Reinstall the VMware Tools in the first place and if it still doesn't work, check with the network team to see the port status whether the ESXi NIC sending the traffic is connected to the switch.

To Add, Compare the Traceroute as well for the both servers to the gateway.

Hi,

Yes, VMware Tools is installed and updated.

The problematic VM and the Other VM are on different clusters, although the underlying ESXi hosts are with same configuration (both hardware and software).

Thanks for your help.
