Physical RDM and Virtual RDM

Hi Everyone,

I have been hearing and studying about these two.

But can someone help me out with the practical applications of both these RDMs?

Like which one to choose when.

The main difference between the two modes are:

  • pRDMs supports LUN sizes of up to ~64TB
  • pRDMs are not affected by snapshots

  • vRDMS support LUN sizes of up to 2TB minus 512 Bytes
  • vRDMs support snapshots and can e.g. be backed up using image based backup applications
