Performance for core limited software

I know you can setup a VM to have many cores to one vCPU and that can help with software that has processor limitations. However, if you have software with core limitations will it inherently cap it's ability to take advantage of computer with greater core capabilities?  As an example, say you have a computer with 1 processor and 8 cores, but the software you want to use limits it's core count to 2.  Is there anything that can be done configuration wise to the VM to enhance the performance and take advantage of the extra cores?  I want to say no, but I'm hoping someone can show me the way.  Thanks.

There is no way. All cores will be presented to guest OS as hardware.

I guess, there is no way in guest OS as well.
