Simply upgrading certainly helps but by itself does not cure or prevent a computer system from being compromised, a truly determined swindler has many other means to achieve his goal. Some of them are little more than "chicken thieves" but many others are top-notch experts and, against these, it becomes very difficult to counteract them by resorting to "newspaper remedies" or "best practices" that everyone knows.
