PCIx sata controler card.

Will ESXi 4 support a PCIx sata controler card?

I am looking at this one

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=16-104-007

Reviewers are saying it work with Linux out of the box.

The page you included states that it uses the Sil3124 chipset,  so you might be OK.  But it's software RAID so ESXi will only see the individual disks.

i would suggest you go thru below sites (whitebox list) and see if it's shown before buying:

If it were my $ then I would look at the lists and get something that has been verified as working.  Let someone else take the risk 🙂

I like your way of thinking Smiley Happy

I have a PCIx slot on my server, I have read that normal PCI card will also work in them is this true?

I am looking at this one now

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816102065

and it is a normal PCI card

It'll depend on the PCI card but it is possible.  The card must be 3.3 V and if it works it'll slow down the PCI-X bus to match the speed of the PCI card which may be an issue for other cards you have connected.
