Trying to P2V my first linux server.
The Server has internal storage and to fiber chanel LUNS
When I start the converter wizard from Vcenter 4.1 It only sees the internal Storage and partitions.
I've attached a df -h its the bottom two partitions that do not show up in convertor.
thanks,jb
This is how I would recommend you do the P2V migration for physical with SAN attached
1.- Get the latest version of converter boot CD
2.- use the P2V check list (Optional)
3.- If you can temporary disable all services that have a dependency on the SAN
4.- Shutdown the server and unpresent the SAN disk to the HBAs
5.- Boot from the converter boot CD
6 .- convert the physical server
7.- Confirm the VM can boot successfully without errors
8.- Unpresent the LUNs to the physical server
9.- Present the LUNs to the ESX host in the cluster
10. shutdown the VM and add the LUNS as RDM disk (s)
11.- Poweron the VM and make sure you can see the data on the RDM(s)
12.- Enable the services that you disabled on step 3
13 .- reboot and test the functionality of the server\appliaction(s)
You can also look at this article for P2V recommendations specific to Linux
As written well in the previous post, just convert the local disk.
Then add the SAN disk as a RDM.
Is this a limitation of p2v on Linux I've never had this issue with windows.
We don't use rdm for anything else, I hope there is another option.

You can make a P2V of the system disk, start the VM with another IP and then use rsync to copy the other disk
