I have run into the classic issue of P2Ving a huge file server but after it was all done and converted, realizing it's part of one VDMK with several partitions. I am trying to grow the E: drive (Check screenshot) but I cannot extend it.
I came up with a few ideas but neither are ideal:
1 - Resize/create a new VM via the Converter but I lose another day or two of sync'd data.
2 - Create a new bigger drive, robocopy all the files to the new drive but then I will lose share permissions (they are all messed up currently so no universal settings)
Any other options or tools I can use? I'd love to resize the E: drive without going through a huge process with millions of files.
Thanks in advance!
you can use the tools like partition magic, acronis, paragon utilities.. to resize the partition...they are too good tools...

Are any of these free though? -- I see Paragon is free but does anyone have any experience actually using it on a Windows Server OS?
I would do number 2. You can still keep your shares. Read this url http://blog.dabasinskas.net/migrating-shares-to-a-different-drive-on-various-windows-server-versions... . I would also recommend doing a snap before and testing it out. Can't remember 100% on the permissions but think those are in the reg as well. He does state there are issues with non-R2 versions of windows 2008 where this aproach will not work.
