Opinions on choice of automation tools

Howdy All,

I previously used PowerCLI to automate some of tasks on VMware vSphere5.0 infrastructure.
I now have a linux machine (SLES 11 SP2, 32bit) with me and want to do some of my automation tasks from it. Since PowerCLI cannot be run from linux machines ( correct if I am wrong). I am looking for other options.

Following are some of the tasks I would like to perform:

(get/new)-virtualswitch, (get/new)-virtualportgroup, (get/new)-vm, clone-vm, get-datastore, get-vmhost, (get/set)-networkadapter

etc.

I also saw the link here .

My question is: which is more efficient and simple to use VMware API for Linux environments.?

Thoughts anyone?

Thanks

Nikunj

Hi,

With linux you'll want to use the vsphere cli - http://www.vmware.com/support/developer/vcli/ or the vMA - which is a linux appliance/VM with the management tools etc included.
