Most of my geographical sites all have a separate datacenter configured in vCenter. in addition, all of my other ESXi hosts are part of HA clusters with 3+ nodes.
However in one of my sites, I only have 3 vms on a single ESXi host. I'm trying to decide if I should put that single ESXi host under a cluster object or not.
Some reasons for having it:
-Reporting consistency - PowerCLI scripts using the "parent" function, vCOps metrics using AvgN() and other tools will not work the same on this site if there is no ESXi cluster.
-Scalability - "No growth is expected whatsover ever at this site", but that is what they all say - so having the cluster object now means I don't have to add it later if these business predections are wrong.
I could simply disable the cluster features of the cluster object such as HA and DRS which aren't relevant for a single host, and have the host sitting under a cluster object.
Are there any caveats or gotchas to doing this?
