OS won't boot after expanding C drive

I am running 4.1.0

I had a server that I converted P to V several months ago. The OS partition was too smal so I wanted to expand it. I was going to umount it and mount it to another client and then expand it, which I had done in the past with success. When I went into settings, I noticed that the size wasnt greyed out. I expanded the size without taking a snapshot. It succeeded but now the OS wont boot. It just sits with a dash in the console window.

Any ideas?

First you have to increase it from vSphere Client.

Then for Windows before Vista you can use DellExtpart (search on Google or on Dell site).

For recent Windows you can extent a partition also from the Disk Manager.

I was able to expand the drive. It shows all 30 gig now. Issue is I can't get it to boot now. It just sits at the console with a dash

A blinking cursor in the upper left corner usually indicated a bad master boot record. Depending on OS you use you may need to run a tool which fixes/recreates it.

As I mentioned, "Depending on OS".

Which OS do you use? Are you also using a boot manager (e.g. GRUB, LILO,...)

I just read that gparted (http://gparted.sourceforge.net/index.php) might be able to fix the MBR.

Make sure you create a snapshot (or backup) before trying to fix the issue.

For Windows 2003 you can also take a look at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326215/en-us (command fixmbr)
