In an ESXi 5.0 vSphere 5.0 based cluster I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 based SQL server and a Windows Server 2008 R2 based Remote Desktop Server (Terminal Server) hosting a client application.
Users accessing the Remote Desktop server report a Generic network error - ODBC SQL Server Driver - DBNETLIB - Code 08S01.
I read the post on page http://communities.vmware.com/thread/329241 suggesting to disable TCP Cecksum Offload and other network features.
- Can I consider the suggestion valid for ESXi 5.0 as well?
- Should I implement the changes on the SQL Server only or on the Remote Desktop server as well?
- Where can I find a complete list of network settings I should implement?
- Should I consider any possible problem while optimizing network settings for SQL?
I downloaded the "SQL Server on VMWare best practice guide" from page
http://communities.vmware.com/servlet/JiveServlet/previewBody/13249-102-1-14546/SQL%20Server%20on%20...
Does it apply to ESXi 5.0 as well or should I look for an up-to-date document?
