No datastore connectivity after update

Hi!

I updated a node (of three) from ESXi 7.0.1 to ESXi 7.0.1U3c. After the update only the server's own datastore is available...

I'm running latest vCenter (upgrade made via Lifecicle thingy).

Servers: HPE Proliant DL385 Gen 10 Plus.

Storage: HPE Nimble AF20 via iSCSI.

I used VMWare's iso. Should i use an HPE iso instead?

Can i rollback?

I'm a little green managing VMWare, so any help is welcome.

Thanks.

Hello André,

After digging up a bit i managed to check the iSCSI target configuration (dynamic/static targets), which are still in place.

However the IQN was different from what's configured in the Nimble Storage.

I set the correct IQN via SSH with the following command:

esxcli iscsi adapter set -A vmhba64 -n correct_IQN

As per VMWare article:
https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/84339

The following Reddit post was also helpfull:

https://www.reddit.com/r/vmware/comments/ssbka2/missing_iscsi_datastores_after_vsphere_70_u3/

If anyone else is wondering how to check the iSCSI target configuration:

-Log into ESXi host

-Navigate to Storage> Adapters

-Select the iSCSI Adapter (highlight it)

-Press 'Configure iSCSI

Thanks to André and DeviVmware for the insight.

Without you i might not have found the issue.

Hello @infAbborges ,

What is your datastore ? FC, iscsi, nfs ? Do you use host profiles in your Environment ?

In case of using Update Manager it's the vendor image that you want to use for an update. If you are going with vLCM (desired state) use the VMware image plus the HPE vendor AddOn.

Did you already check whether the iSCSI target configuration (dynamic/static targets) are still in place. I upgraded a HPE environment lately where one out of 8 hosts lost the iSCSI settings.

Hello DeviVmware,

All my datastores are iSCSI.

Hello André,

I used vLCM with just the VMware image but not the HPE Vendor AddOn.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'iSCSI target configuration (dynamic/static targets) are still in place' maybe you can elaborate on that? (as i said, i'm green)

But i ran 'esxcli iscsi networkportal list' on all three hosts and in the one that doens't work, the last line stands out: 'Path Status: unused'

On the other 2 hosts, it shows as: 'Path Status: active'

Cheers.
