No DVD available to VMs

Hi all,

I have installed ESXi 4 onto my DL370 G6 successfully but can not see the DVD drive (that was used during the initial setup) when trying to boot my VM's? Is there a driver I need for this?

Thanks,

Mike

I've seen this on other posts, too. It seems the HP ML/DL350 and ML/DL370 have DVD-ROM drives with incompatible firmware. You can try to use any other CD/DVD-ROM drive to test this. The only question remaining will be, how is responsable? HP or VMware?

Welcome to the Forums - Also check the settings of the VM - I believe by default it will look to the CD drive in the workstation you are running the vSphere client form - the preferred way is to make an ISO image of the CD and storw in a location accessible by the ESX host like NAS/NFS or SAN LUN

Yes, I tend to use ISO's when using VMWARE but this is my first attempt at ESXi so am trying things out. The server(s) are going into a client site where they won't be too pleased they've just spent $75K and can't use their DVD to install stuff..... Hey ho, I'm sure it is a driver issue somewhere.

Thanks.
