We recently purchased a pair of DL360p gen 8 and install ESXi 5.1 using HP-provided image and everything goes fine. But after logging into it using vSphere client, there is a yellow light says "Host Baseband Management Controller status", indicating iLO has warnings.
We have no iLO configured and plan not to use it. Is this yellow light normal? Two host has the same problem, so I dont think that the iLO really has the problem...
Hi..
If your iLO interface isn't connected at all vCenter throws this error... If you're planning not to use iLOs at all you can disable this alarm in vCenter (Alarm name is "Host Baseboard Management Controller status")

It's up to you, but you should really consider to configure and use ILO (even without an advanced license). It helps you to identify issues with the host/hardware at no additional cost.
I'm not 100% sure about the Gen8 hosts, but at least in earlier versions it seemes to be possible to disable ILO if you don't want/need it (see e.g. http://blog.vmpros.nl/2012/01/03/vmware-host-baseboard-management-controller-status/). In the old Compaq times the servers were shipped with a loopback network plug to disable the warning in the Insight Manager/Management Home page.
