New Mac Pro 6,1 with ESXi 5.5u2 and Myricom 10GB network card

Hi !

I get in trouble with the following new lab environment.

I have a brand new Apple Mac Pro 6.1 (black) which runs perfectly with the last ESXi 5.5 Update 2 Patch03 (ESXi550-201410001).

But I'm now trying to add the 10G-PCIE2-8B2-2S TWO-PORT 10-GIGABIT ETHERNET NETWORK ADAPTERS from Myricom, with the Async VMware certified driver Myri10GE_ESXi5_1.5.3

Directly plugged-into a Sonnet - xMac Pro Server Thunderbolt 2 PCIe Enclosure .

As you can see below, ESXi accept to install it, "see" the network card and the installed driver but don't recognize/load it at boot...

~ # esxcli software vib list |grep -i net-myri10ge

net-myri10ge                   1.5.3-1OEM.500.0.0.472560          Myricom  VMwareCertified   2014-11-19

Hello,

This is exactly the project we have to replace our Xserve in 2015.

So that's very interesting for me.

Have you some news from vmware about this problem?

Hi David,

Actually, I don't have yet an answer from Vmware.

But, technical support of Myricom is very nice, available and competent. And they are trying to do their best to update and certified their new drivers for ESXi 5.5 and 6.

For now, I'm installing a "beta" unsigned version of a new driver they sent me for testing...

Let's wait and see 😉

Guillaume
