New Admin User

My purpose is to create the new user who can manage my ESXi Server.

I create the user and set password, assign him to the root group. I also set his permissions to console.

I tried to login console with the new account, it works fine.

But when I try to login through the vSphere Client, I got errors. No permissions.

What shall I do? Maybe some services need be restarted? Does anyone know?

Or any suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

Have you added this user to a Role in vCenter?

To allow user permission thorugh vSphere Client on standalone host you have to create a new role with requried access and assign the user to this role.

Thanks everybody.

I think I got the answer. In ESXi, there is a definition named Role.

Group is not the same as Unix, it is a group users. Permissions are based on Role.

So even you add the user to a group, it is no use. You must add the users or groups to a role.

Then it works.
