Network throughput / bonding?

Even though my ESXi 4.0 U1 host has Gb Ethernet adapters, and ESX says it's linked at 1GB/s, and the switch says it's linked at 1Gb/s... I can only get 100Mb/s (via command-line scp) I was able to transfer the same file from the same host to another Linux machine and get over 300Mb/s The network people swear it isn't the switch, and I believe them. I already had one problem with ESXi 4 having terrible network performance until I did the update... is this the same thing? Is there another setting somewhere in ESX that I could look at?

I'd like to bond the two Ethernet adapters in this ESX host. Is there any special trick to that? Any particular settings that need to be done on the switch? I'm kind of wary about this, as I seem to keep having network-related issues with ESXi 4

It's a known issue. ESX performs poorly itself, we're all waiting when this will be resolved. But this is only ESX itself, VMs are not affected and use full network speed.

I don't think ESX supports LAG etc itself, but you can assign multiple NICs to a vSwitch, and ESX will route traffic from different vNICs (i.e. VMs) over different NICs in the defined method (source port, ip hash, mac hash).
