Network issues with Virtual Machines

Hi,

I have a cluster of 5 esx hosts with the same build (ESXi 5.5.0 build 2456374). They are all using VDS nexus 1k with same vlans. However, there is an intermittent issue whereby VM from one host is unable to ping VM from another host in the same vlan. But when I migrate it to the same host, the issue is resolved and the VMs can ping each other. Next, if I were to move one of the VMs back to its' original host, the VMs are now able to ping each other. So a migration has to be done in order to fix the issue.

Appreciate if anyone has any idea on what's the cause of the issue. Thanks.

Regards,

Kelvin

Does a new mac ID assigned after migration, or same mac id ?. Is there any mac id mapping related issue on VDS nexus ?

Hi, it's the same mac id and there is no mac id mapping on the n1k.
