Need help with ESXi 5 virtual machine IP config

Hi All,

I have installed ESXi 5 for my lab testing. IP address of the ESX server is 10.130.166.185. On top of the ESX, I have installed a Windows XP virutual machine. When creating the VM, I choose adapter type as "flexible" and automatic MAC address and network connection lable is VM Network.

After installing Windows XP, by default it took the IP address 192.168.220.217.

From my laptop (IP Address: 10.130.166.20) I am not able to ping the virtual machine's IP address but from the XP VM, I am able to ping my laptop.

On the XP VM, I have changed the IP address type to static and assigned IP address 10.130.166.180. Now also, I am able to ping my laptop from the VM but not the otherway arround.

Could you please let me know how to access VM from my laptop?

Thank you all in advance for your help.

I'm not trying to be insulting, but have you double checked to make sure your VM's Windows firewall isn't the problem?

Hello and welcome to the VMware Community forum.

You are writing that the XP did take a 192.186... address. That seems quite strange as there must be a DHCP server in that subnet.

Can you please explain your LAN situation (Subnets, Routers, Firewalls) and how you did configure the vSwitches in your ESXi?
