I have an ancient Compaq server running a legacy system that I need to virtualise before the hardware gives up the ghost. I have tried using the VMware Converter v3 to create the image and then VMware Converter v5 to convert to a VM. Both converters complete successfully, but when I power on the VM I get a blue screen after a partial boot with the message "KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED" and an entire screen of offending modules. Has anyone else had this issue? Does anyone have a solution. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks.
are you using IDE or a SCSI controller for the guest. If IDE, you may think about changing it to SCSI to see if the guest will boot.
Although for W2K, see also, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/904374/
Edit: NT4 is supported..

Welcome to the Community,
unfortunately a lot of drivers in Windows NT run in the kernel mode, so even a display or printer driver could cause a BSOD. What you could try is to try the VGA boot option from the boot menu to rule out display driver issues. If the boot menu does not show up, please post (attach) the current boot.ini.
