NIC teaming issues

I wanted to know if you are able to add multiple nic from same group to a server. it would be like teaming from os. right now if i add another nic it then gets assigned a dhcp address were as the other nic has a static not this causes DNS issues but helps the performance of of the VS. I have tried the nic teaming from the vswitch but that has not help my performance at all. Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks

I guess you had been confused about the teaming. ESX teaming and Operating system teaming in virtual machine is 2 different solution. If you plan to add additional nics to your virtual machine and team it from OS level, you have to perform the team configuration on the virtual machine and not the ESX vswitch level.

I understand that. What software do you use to team nic from the OS level. Before we went to a virtual environment i used the HP Network Configure to team my nics. No that they run in a virtual environment how would i do that. I have been told from HP VMware team to just add another nic to the server and it would team by itself. Well that was not the case and that other nic receives its own ip address defeating the nic teaming purpose.

Thanks

What would your rationale be for wanting to do OS level NIC teaming on a virtual machine?

I have tried the nic teaming on the vswitch and that has not helped out at all. My packets stay around 35000 when teaming from the vswitch. When i added the second nic on the server the packets drop to around 7000. But this caused DNS issues with naming. I have the latest tools installed on the server but not sure what else i can try.

you might want to try:

- explain your situation

- explain what you are facing

- explain what you are trying to achieve

as with the info you are giving us right now we can't give you a solution.

The situation that i am having is that my packets on my ESX server are running around 35000-50000 constant there is no spikes that high. If i do have spikes it can go all the way to 100000. That is way to much packet traffic and causes everything on the network to freeze or slow way down.

So the problem i am having is the performance on my esx server is way slow for all the machines. i have added another nic to the server that was causing the packet issue and that seemed to help a lot. But there is now the problem with the DNS like stated above.

What i want is to have the packet traffic around 10000 or less. i know it can happen but how? I have tried teaming on the vSwitch that has not helped. This server also ran all by itself on a physical machine before being P2V. I never had any issues with performance before it became a VS. On the OS level i was also teaming just two Gigabyte nics.
