NFS Datastore unavailable

Hey all,

I'm trying to find out why when the server running our NFS data store goes through a reboot or goes unavailable for any reason our ESX host data store disconnect and will never reconnect. The data store goes into a "inactive" state and even though the NFS server is back online in less then 2 mins it will never "re-activate" in Vmware until I reboot the host.

Does anyone have a solution?

Thanks in Advance

Thats because the host will try to connect for 140s and if after that it doesnot comes back it wont check for reconnection again until the ESXi is rebooted.

OK quick update

I have changed the Misc.ApdTimeout from 140seconds to 500 and NFS.HeartBeat Frequency to 500 seconds to test. The NFS data store now does not go offline in VMware while the NFS server is rebooted but when I browse the data store it shows as empty even after the NFS server is up and online once I reboot the esx host the data comes back just fine

Any ideas?

Can you please describe the path from your ESXi host to the NFS server in more detail (NICs/LACP configuration if any/model, etc.)? Can you see any active connection from the ESXi on your array when it has booted back up?

Edit: There is a thread pretty similar to yours - maybe you can find some help there as well? Re: NFS datastores inactive after reboot
