My ESXi 5.5 server keeps shutdown unexpectedly every time I reboot

Hi all,

I'm the new admin of our lab website service.

All of our web services are run in the ESXi 5.5 server hosted VMs.

However, this Tuesday. The following problems keep happening:

* I first found the server power is off and when I try to reboot the server, after ESXi finished setup(It will show ip and DN url and show I should download tools to manage). After about 5 to 10 minutes, the power of the server shutdown unexpectedly.

* Although the network setting and ssh enable setting are set, I can neither ping the ESXi server's IP nor ssh to it.

* The network test result show only the domain name resolve is failed.

After checking the log. I'm guessing the problem is caused by hostd crash and result in the power off of the server.

Cuz from Syslog, the following log always shows before the power is off:

"2023-03-29T16:12:59Z watchdog-hostd: Executing `hostd ++min=0,swapscope=system,group=host/vim/vmvisor/hostd /etc/vmware/hostd/config.xml`"

I found that hostd crashed might caused by the memory issue.

But I'm new to this system, not familiar how to troubleshoot this.

I can't even access a terminal to do something.

Hope to seek some veteran insight to help me with this problem.

If more details is needed, I'll provide them ASAP.

Thanks!

Hello.
What brand (DELL, HPE, Lenovo, IBM, others) is your physical server. Most servers have an administration module, can you log into it?

Check the hardware error logs on the server. If there are devices with problems you will have to replace them (or ask for support to some hardware service provider).
