Multiple Nics and bridging

Hi,

I have an esxi4 host with 3 physical NICS. What I want to be able to do is connect a Laptop with a xover cable to one of the 2 unused ports on the esxi host and have it pick up an address from the DHCP server on the existing active connection basically as if the esxi host was a switch.

If anyone can help or suggest some appropriate google search terms i'd be grateful.

Is not so simple.

The only working solution is use 2 different networks and 2 vSwitch (one for the NIC with the cross cable).

I suggest to use a simple configuration and connect your laptop to the network switch.

Note that you will need a DHCP server on your network (it could be also a VM) to assign the IP addresses.

Welceom to the Forums - your could use a crossover cable and your laptop will pick up an iP address from the DHCP server but will only communicate tot he DHCP server and whatever other VMs that are on the virtual switch the NIC is connected - traffic will not be routed out the other active network port -
