Multicast with E1000 vs. VMXNet 3

Hello,

I am troubleshooting an issue with multicast. I've noticed that if I use the VMXNet 3 driver, my guest cannot see multicast traffic. If I use the E1000 driver, the guest can see multicast traffic.  I have searched and cannot find any information about problems with multicast and VMXNet 3.  Has anyone seen this behavior before?

Thanks,

Dennis

Hi,

I saw this behavior. The guest cannot see multicast traffic by default if you use the VMXNET 3. But if you add one interface in guest OS to a multicast group by socket command IP_ADD_MEMBERSHIP, the guest OS will see the corresponding multicast traffic.

I have another requirement that I want E1000 to behave as VMXNET 3. But I haven't found the way. I don't want the guest OS see all the multicast traffic when I use the E1000 driver.
