Multicast Network Load Balancing

Hi, I have a Windows 2003 Enterprise NLB Mutlicast Mode Cluster which consists 2 phsycial servers and I want to add a VM as a third server in the cluster. Servers are using a single NIC.

We tried adding it to the cluster but my Cluster guys says it joins nlb but does not answer which causes the virtual IP to hang when it hits that server...remove from nlb and the other 2 servers answer. I talked to Network guys about the static ARP and they say that static arp entries would be needed if we were utilizing layer 3 but we’re not…….we are containing this connectivity to a single VLAN which utilizes layer 2 functionality only.

This are attached to 2 different physcial switches and the VMware NICs are setup in a VLAN trunk and ESX is using Route based on IP hash with Notify Switches = yes if this makes a difference

I have read a bunch of documents but based on what my network staff are telling me I should not need the static ARP entries and it should work.

Any thoughts ? Thanks.
