I just installed VSphere esxi 5.1 on my HP Proliant Server. Now I want to migrate my VM's off of Server 2008 r2 machines. I have installed the VSphere Client on my workstation but I can't figure out how to migrate the machines over. If I go to create a new VM in the client the only place it allows me to look for exisiting VM's is on the datastore of the VSphere. Any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated. I'm very new to VSphere. Thanks.
the vms on the 2008 r2 machines, how are they created?
are they vmware workstation machines?
you can use winscp to upload files to your datastore.
ssh has to be on
They are hyper V machines. I have VMWare VCenter Converter. I would assume I would have to convert it and then use winscp on the server 2003 machine to ftp the file over to the VSphere machine? Thanks btw!
with converter you should be able to use the host as the destination
Although I agree that VMware Converter is the right tool, this unfortunately won't work due to an issue with the current converter version (see http://kb.vmware.com/kb/2033315)

some people have had success with converter 4.x try that then.
a.p.'s correct about hte converter problem
Is the error when you select the VSphere server as the destination, an error pops up and the converter closes? So do you think I should unintall 5.0 install 4.x converter and try again or use the winscp?
