Move host configuration from one host to another

Having an esxi 4.0 that I for some reason can't update with host update utility. It stops around 45 % and asks med to check the logs.... hmm... instead of debugging, I would rather move configuration to a newly installed and upgraded 4.0 update 1 host.

But this is also giving me problems. I do a:

C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware vSphere CLI\bin>vicfg-cfgbackup.pl --server -l c:\r2d2.txt

...and I get a:

Restore failed: fault.InvalidBundle.summary

Thought it was version conflicts, and tried therefore to restore it to a newly installed 4.0 (no update 1), and got the same error.

Huh?

Regards, Lars.

Generally backups/restores will go back to a similar host configuration, are both hosts similar in hardware/etc? I haven't played much with restores to say definitively if you can apply a host backup from one host to another.

It is the exactly same hardware. Booting on the USB stick, the USB stick is a different brand, though.

It is probably easier just to reconfigure the new host, but... I think that it is wrong way of doing it.
