Move VMDK files to USB directly from ESXI Host (ESXI 5.5)

Greetings Folks,

I am in a bit of a pickle here. I need to migrate my old ESXI VMs, running on 5.5 to a newer version on a new machine. The issue I am having is that the connection through the GUI on my PC does not stay connected long enough to complete the transfer to my PC, so I can get a local copy to upload to the new VM server. This is one of the main reasons I am upgrading. I am hoping there is a way I can connect the 10TB external HDD directly to the physical server, and move the vmdk files over to that USB before uploading to the new VM machine.

I already tried using FileZilla via SFTP to transfer, but it constantly disconnects and reconnects, which also interrupts the transfer.

The server is a Dell VRTX Blade/NAS Combo with two blades in it, each one hosting an ESXI instance, with 2-3 VMs per instance. I have about 7 TB worth of VMs I need to migrate...

Any advice that could be provided would be appreciated!
