Move Datastore to NAS and build a backup Esxi Host ... is that work?

I have a vSphere Hypervisor Esxi Host, there are two VM Guests inside, the datastore in the same local Host.

I wonder if these could work?!

1. Move datastore to NAS (a network share storage)

2. Duplicate a second VM Host which based on the first VM Host. (maybe using ghost or export/import OVF)

3. If the first VM Host fail, then turn on second VM Host to take over.

Do you have vCenter server and ESXi Host added in vCenter?

if Yes, You can Configure ESXi HA Cluster to handle the host failover. if one Host fails in Cluster, HA will failover VMs from failed host to another running Host.

To do this, you need to attach same NAS/Shared storage to all ESXi Host in Cluster and run VMs from shared storage.

if you don't have vCenter servers and only have standalone ESXi Host then you need to use VM export/import and that would be manual work.

Still if you have to do this Try Veeam FastSCP,  https://www.veeam.com/vmware-esxi-fastscp.html

This will increase VM download/upload speed.

Thanks,
