I have a new esxi5 cluster, I want to migrate vms from a 4.1 cluster. The esxi5 dv switch is 4.1 enabled and has all LUNs presented and networking configured.
I would like to remove the exisiting 4.1 host and add it to the new cluster so I can then migrate vms via vmotion.
I am unable to evacuate all vms from the old environment because of a lack of resource. When I disconnect the host, then 'remove' it prompts a warning that "all vms will be removed..." um a bit scary, what does one do here?
Thanks in advance!
Brendan
from what I recall, if the guests or on the hsots, they will be removed from vcenter 4, so that is why they are being listed as bieng removed.
when you add the host into vsphere 5, the guests will come along.
Thanks for the reply, that sounds all fine, however I have concerns over bringing up a foreign host that has a older cpu type, I thought cpu had to be the same in order to vmotion?
you would probably need to enable evc then.
try a trial run if you have enough hosts,
add a test guest, and see what happens.
nothing like live tests!
after wards you can readd it to the old vpshere 4 if you have to.
