Motherboard ASUS M2NPV-VM+ AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+

Grazie

-

Hello, I use the following components to create a host on which to install ESXi 4

Motherboard ASUS M2NPV-VM

Processor AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+

RAM 4Gb

DVD SATA

HD SATA2 300Gb

I tested the site go.wmare but the compatibility test only indicates that the PC is not compatible. I downloaded the CD but in this case during the test hangs.

Both the motherboard is the processor are contained in the list of components compatible with the release.

How can I do to get information about which component is blocking the installation?

Thanks

You didn't expect to get an answer in italiano, didn't you?

Whiteboxes can be difficult sometimes. Usually, Dave's pages are a good source for workaround and hints.

There are not only infos about specific mainboards, network components and storage controllers, but also general info (like appending parameters to the boot process).

Did you update your Computer's BIOS already to the latest? Tried VMware ESXi 4.1?

Hello Jackobili, thanks for the reply, I also posted in English.

I'll try other site information that I have indicated.

I'll try other site information that I have indicated.

Look here for boot options (noACPI and others), that may help booting.

Sometimes one should also be very patient. There may be steps, where the installer tries for a long period until it goes to the next step.

You may also install ESXi to an USB-Stick on another machine and try to boot from this stick.

hey,

plz chech that ur CPU supports AMD-V technology or not using CPU-Z tool,

If ur CPU doen't supports AMD-V (Virtualization Technologh),it ll be inistalled but takes longer time to up the esx server.

Check the attachment for CPUID referrence.

CPU is compatible but onboard network card on that ASUS mobo is not. You need some supported PCIe NIC, I recommend Intel Pro/1000.

Seems reasonable, the OP writes, something ist "blocking" the install. Thought, ESXi does install but later shows no nics (last tested with 3.5, so this might be changed on vSpere 4 and greater).

Even ESX 4.x does not support Realtek NIC chip which is widely used in those mobos. I have ASUS P5QL PRO as my home lab ESX 4.x host and I too had to install Intel Pro NIC so that I could even install ESX 4 on this hardware.

The Intel PRO/1000 GT Desktop is OK?

Ok, so you agree, that the installer of ESXi 4 is blocking/stopping installation, while no supported nic is available?

I am using only supported nics (broadcom or intel), so I couldn't test with ESXi 4.

On 3.5, the installation is possible. It checks only cpu (chipset) and storage.

Yes, ESX(i) 4.x install will fail unless supported NIC is found

I am reading mixed feedback about Intel PRO/1000 GT support, some say it works some say it doesn't

It is listed here http://www.vm-help.com/esx40i/esx40_whitebox_HCL.php#NICs as supported but if you follow the links you'll find some debate about support.
