Modifying write cache ratio on HP Smart Controller error using hpssacli (Error: The specified target must be a controller.)

Hello Everyone,

I just want to share with you a quick misleading temporary error massage, maybe it will bring some light to anyone who see it as i couldn't find the error online(maybe i didn't look hard enough).

What i was trying to do is use the HP Array Configuration Utility CLI from VMware console so that i can modify the cache ratio of one of the controllers on an esxi server.

when i typed in the command i got the following error message that made no sense:

Error: The specified target must be a controller.

Now this error message is only temporary and it's root cause is because the cache is Temporarily Disabled (in my case i put in a new battery and it was still charging) as shown below:

While the cache is disabled you will not be able to edit the ratio, so i waited for the battery to charge up and once the cache status was back to "OK" i ran the command and it successfully modified the ratio as per my specifications.
