Modifying Interrupt Coalesence of vNIC on SLES VMware guest

I'm investigating some high system CPU usage on some Linux IHS servers and have come across some references to Interrupt Coalescence and how it can help reduce the amount of CPU time required to process ethernet frames.

But, I don't seem to be able to set this on my 64 bit SLES 10 VMWare guest (running on vSphere 4.1 Update 4 I think) - it appears the e1000 NIC doesn't support it.

Has anyone else come across this and did you find an alternative?

Thanks.

I suspect if you switch to the vmxnet3 adapter that any CPU usage issues due to network interrupts will be alleviated.
