Mixing 10Gbe and 1Gbe on same vSwitch?

If I have a vSwitch with 2 pNICs assigned - 1x 1Gbe and 1x 10GbE if I set both active will ESXi still balance traffic or will it use the 10GbE?

I want redundancy but didn't know if I'm better off simply setting the 1GbE to "Standby" so it only kicks in if the 10GbE link is lost?

Afaik the VM's will be distributed across the vmnics regardless of their speed, so you may be better off setting the 1GB NIC to standby. With the 1GB NIC set to standby you still have redundancy, so that shouldn't be an issue.
