Missing Datastore after RAID 5 expand

Hi All,

I have ESXi 5.0 installed on a DL360 with a P400i raid card.  I had a 1.8 TB raid setup and then added 2 drives to the raid via the ACU.  Everythign went swimmingly (rebuilt array, expanded logical drive...)

rebooted and now VMWare reports, no persistent storage available.  I've attempted fdisk -l (no output)  Booted to GParted and it sees the 1.8 TB partition but won't mount it.  Says it's corrupt etc.  The rest of the partitions mount just fine.  (as it boots into VMware.)

I'd really like to not rebuild the VM's if at all possible 😉

Thanks,

Welcome to the Community,

I'm afraid you are hit by http://kb.vmware.com/kb/2006942. I just checked the VMware an HP web site to see whether there's already a driver update available, but I couldn't find one. The only way ESXi can handle RAID sets larger than ~2TB using the cciss driver, is to split the RAID into multiple smaller logical volumes.

Bummer.  Got any good ideas on how I can resolve this?  I'm at a bit of a loss right now.

I'm wondering if I can copy the 1.8TB partition to another drive and use that as my datastore.

Oh yes, thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
