Migrate existing Vcenter 4.0 authentication to Active directory

Hi i am trying to migrate Vcentre 4.0 login to Active Directory currently it does not use any AD for authentication are there any steps or procedure on how to perform such operations for Vcentre from non-AD auth to AD auth?

very simple. just join the vcenter server as a active directory member server.

As written you have to join to AD. Then you will be able to use local and AD users.

Because the FQDN of the vCenter will change you may have some issue, for example with vCenter plugin. In this case check in the VMware KB using the error message.

For Update Manager plugin, we have the option to change to IP address or vCenter server name under Administration tab of Update Manager.

Not sure about other plugins whether it gives the option to change the vCenter name or IP address.

You can use AD group for this purpose.

Add a new group and remove the local Administrator from VMware permission.
