Migrate Virtual Machine Looping - The VM failed to resume on the destination during early power on?

Hi All,

I seem to be having an issue with a new guest configured in my environment (5x esxi 5.1 hosts, vCenter and EQL SAN backend, HA & DRS enabled) and I am hoping someone can help or advise.

I have noticed the new guest keeps trying to migrate and fails at 14% with a timeout and errors :-

The VM failed to resume on the destination during early power on.

Failed to power on VM.

Could not power on VM: Out of resources.

Failed to extend swap file from 32768 KB to 217852 KB.

Failed to extend swap file from 32768 KB to 218112 KB.

SharedArea: Unable to find 'testSharedAreaPtr' in SHARED_PER_VM_VMX area.

I have done a little research and I can't seem to find an identical match for my issue but similar errors users have report where a guest systems fail to power on (My guest powers on and works fine) point to a lack of space in the Datastores to create a Swap file the same size as RAM?  Any help would be well received.

Hi,

You can reserve all the virtual machine memory and remove swap file from the location or change swap location from your host configuration.

Or if you can, migrate the virtual machine to another datastore and then try to power on that.

To prevent that, keep 10% of your datastores free always.
