MSCS on ESX 4.1 with Windows 2008 x64 non-R2

I've read the latest vmware doc for mscs on esx 4.1 and it's not clear if I must absolutely use windows 2008 x64 R2, or can I use windows 2008 x64 non-R2?

In some places it say R2 and in others is says simple windows 2008.

We have not made the jump to R2 yet and I'd like to not force the windows guys to use R2 if they aren't ready.

Thanks for your help.

Aaron

On page 10 and 34 they are pretty clear about using 2003 SP2 or 2008 R2 for the clusters. Not to say the others wouldn't work but that is probably what they tested with and so that is the supported configuration.

Mittim is correct. What they "test" is usually the the golden standard for support. It doesn't mean it "won't work" as we have clustered all versions of windows server clusters.

Thank you.

I just don't want to end up in a non supported config with windows 2008 non-R2
