Hi,
I had a bit of a problem, I hope someone can help me. My setup is a bit weird but it is needed for my testing in the company.
I had a VMware Workstation 6.5.2 installed in a 64-bit XP.
My processor is Q6600 Core 2 Quad
My Motherboard is Intel DG35EC
I had enabled Intel-VT in Bios
I installed ESXi 4.0 as a guest in my VMware Workstation 6.5.2. I chose Other Linux 64-bit processor, I set the processor execution mode as "Intel VT-x or AMD-V". I chose the number of processors as two. It went on and was installed succesfully.
After which I added a line monitor_control.restrict_backdoor = “TRUE in the vmx file so that I can run any guest operating system.
The problem now is I can't run a guest 64 bit VA inside the Guest ESXi 4.0 in the VMware Workstation 6.5.2. It had this error
"Host CPU is incompatible with the virtual machine's requirements at CPUID level 0x80000001 register 'edx'. Host bits: 0000:0000:0001:0000:0000:1000:0000:0000 Required: xx1x:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx Mismatch detected for these features: * Longmode; required when a virtual machine is configured for a 64-bit guest OS. Note that for systems with Intel CPUs, enabling VT in the BIOS is required for longmode support. "
Can anyone help me please? The VA runs without any errors in a physical esxi 4.0
Thanks.
You can't run 64bit guests inside a virtual ESXi. The Intel-VT (or AMD) virtualization capability is not passed through to the ESXi guest. No different in Workstation 7.
Hi,
as OP said it won't work what are you trying to do.
The inner vm can't be a 64 bits guest.
You can confirm it here.
