Hello! For years I have built ESXi hosts with no SSD/HDD internally and only used something like a MicroSD, SD, or USB stick. In this configuration it was always necessary to redirect the log and scratch locations to a NFS/iSCSI datastore because of limited space.
Fast forward to today and I am using 120Gb SSD drives in a couple of LAB ESXi 7U3 servers. Looks like the ESXi install took the whole disk, so no local datastore. Currently both log and scratch are redirected to NFS/iSCSI. Is it a good idea to redirect those back to the local ESXi OS disk? If yes, what are the ESXi command line commands to reset these settings to default?
This is how I redirected them to begin with:
esxcli system syslog config set --logdir="/vmfs/....."
vim-cmd hostsvc/advopt/update ScratchConfig.ConfiguredScratchLocation string "/vmfs/...."
