Loading Stage2 boot failure

Hello,

Compaq Proliant DL380 G5, SmartArray P400, ESX 4u1

I upgraded from ESX 3.5 to 4u1 last week with no issues. Today I installed the HP Insights Agents, and rebooted. The server posts, no errors, and the screen displays GRUB Loading Stage 2, and then does not continue. The Grub boot menu is not shown. What are my options for recovering from this point?

VMware support said it would be faster to just reinstall new at this point. So I installed new, chose to keep my vmfs partition (the default option), and was up and running.
